About Us:

Bioinformatics Lab

The bioinformatics group in the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech maintains its own local area network (LAN) in the bioinformatics lab in 2160 Torgersen Hall and an integrated computational, database, and web service system in 2070 Torgersen Hall. Our LAN connects 3 Linux servers, 26 Linux workstations, 7 Apple OS X workstations, a Windows computer, and a 22-node cluster. Computers in the LAN share a 1-gigabit ethernet switched connection and have separate 100-megabit ethernet connections to the campus network. The servers have a total of 40 gigabytes of RAM and three terabytes of disk space. They currently support 100 gigabytes of biological databases for use in bioinformatics research at Virginia Tech.
