A Short Bio

Harsha K. Rajasimha, MS, Ph.D. serves as a founder member of the Organization for Rare Diseases in India and on the scientific expert panel for Rare Genomics Institute. He is academically affiliated as a faculty in the School of Systems Biology at George Mason University, Fairfax, VA. He is also the founder CEO of a Bioinformatics and genomics services company Jeeva Informatics Solutions based in the state of Maryland, USA. Since Nov 2013, Harsha is doing business development for Strand Life Sciences, implementing their end to end clinical genomics solutions (www.strandls.com) in the U.S. hospitals. Prior to founding Jeeva, Harsha was a Sr. Director of Bioinformatics and Translational Research at Dovel Technologies, a Virginia based health IT company, where he covered academic and US Federal Government contracts advised FDA on the STARLIMS implementation program at their office of regulatory affairs. Harsha has over a decade of experience working on various interdisciplinary projects involving genomics BigData as a consultant for clients including National Cancer Institute, National Eye Institute, Georgetown University, and Genome International Corporation. His research work has focused on the genomics and systems biology of diseases including Cancer, Infectious diseases, Neuro-Muscular diseases, and retinal degenerative diseases. Harsha completed his M.S. in Computer Science and Ph.D. in Genetics, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at Virginia Tech, where he developed and applied reusable simulation models of mitochondrial DNA heteroplasmy dynamics to various diseases.

My current interests are around three major focus areas.
1. End to End Clinical Genomics: Implementing Genomic data analysis and interpretation services for the clinic. This involves breaking barriers to innovate and create markets that do not exist at the level of community hospitals in the US yet.
That's my role at www.Strandls.com.
2. Rare Diseases: Establish a self-sustaining non-profit Organization for Rare Diseases India that I co-founded with a world-class team of scientists and technologists. www.ordindia.org.
3. Bioinformatics Services: There is a dearth of Bioinformatics skills to fill the very many needs of academic research labs, government labs and pharma/biotech sectors. Jeeva Informatics solutions aims to fill this gap for the US federal government in Agriculture and Biomedical Research.
