Exploration of the SAR around a series of 3,5-disubstituted-1H-pyrrolo (2,3-b) pyridines led to the discovery of novel pyrrolopyridine inhibitors of the IGF-1R tyrosine kinase.
In pancreas islets their potential function is unclear and only little information is available on occurrence and distribution of the corresponding insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R) in islet cells.
Our results suggest that locally produced IGF-I within the pancreas inhibits islet cell growth ; its deficiency provides a protective environment to the beta-cells and potential in combating diabetes.
The results in recipient mice bearing long-term rat , mouse , or fish islet grafts were the same as previously published dose-response data for each donor species.
