We compared the accuracy of PJ (IL-8) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) to diagnose chronic pancreatitis (CP).
CONCLUSIONS : Determination of the frequency of IL-8 polymorphism in acute pancreatitis may be informative and may provide further evidence concerning the role of IL-8 in the severe form of this disease.
Severe acute pancreatitis is associated with a typical systemic inflammatory response syndrome and over-expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (interleukin (IL) -6 , IL-8 , macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF)).
In our study we discovered a new mechanism that answers the long-standing question how pro-inflammatory cytokines and environmental stress restrict immediate signalling of interleukin (IL) -6 - type cytokines.
