The aim of this study was to examine whether -572 G/C polymorphism in the IL-6 gene and 2767 A/G polymorphism in the 3 ' - untranslated region (UTR) of the IL-8 gene are associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
OBJECTIVE : To determine whether a polymorphism within the tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha) gene is associated with susceptibility to , or severity of , rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Because the proinflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) may be important in host response to viral infection , HEp-2 cells were treated with TNF-alpha and mice were given TNF-alpha antibody before RSV infection.
RSV infection decreased human but not mouse Stat2 levels , so this mechanism of IFN antagonism may contribute to viral host range , as well as immune subversion.
