CONCLUSION : This study indicates that specific interleukin genotypes are a part of a genetic make up that make infants sleeping prone at risk for SIDS.
To determine whether cytokines may be involved in this inflammatory response , levels of interleukin (IL) -1 beta , IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) - alpha were examined , using ELISA assays , in culture supernatants of human peripheral blood leucocytes infected with influenza virus and subsequently incubated with endotoxin.
Influenza A virus infection of macrophages resulted in temporary increases in HLA class I , beta 2-microglobulin and class II antigen expression.
The inhibition by IFN-alpha/beta of MHC class II expression may play a regulatory role in virus induced autoimmune disease mediated by MHC class II aberrant expression.
