The purpose of this study will be verified the effect of a muscle-strengthening program with load during a ten-week period in pre-frail elderly women with attention to the following outcomes : (1) plasma levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) , (2) functional capacity and (3) knee extensor muscle strength.
Both TNF-alpha mRNA and protein levels were elevated in skeletal muscle from frail elderly (81 + / -1 year) as compared to healthy young (23 + / -1 year) men and women.
RESULTS : We report that monocytes derived from healthy women with various germline mutations of BRCA1 had significantly decreased spontaneous (p = 0.03) and LPS-induced (p (0.001) production of TNF-alpha , as compared to monocytes derived from healthy age-matched control females.
