Research Projects
  1. Identifying splicing regulatory elements with de Bruijn graphs Alternative splicing (AS) is the primary reason explaining the difference between the estimated 24,000 protein-coding genes in the human genome and the estimated 100,000 different proteins that are synthesized. AS is regulated by specific proteins, called splicing factors. They bind to certain short subsequences on the pre-mRNA, called splicing regulatory elements (SREs). Identifying these SREs and their combinatorial effects are crucial to understanding AS. In this project we tackle many of the limitations encountered in the current approaches for identifying SREs.

  1. Transporters: the goal of this project is getting clues about role of amino acid transporters and trying to discover the relationship between them and the metabolic enzymes.

  1. Genome ID project: A broadly accepted and stable biological classification system is a prerequisite for biological sciences to describe and communicate about life without confusion. Current biological classification uses the species as basic unit and is thus inadequate to classify the immense genetic diversity within species that has been revealed by genome sequencing. In this project, we tried to systematically assign unique codes to each individual genome-sequenced organism, whereby codes are informative of each organism similarity to all other related organisms independent of current classification

  1. Large Scale 3D Data Visualization: In present-day research, a lot of discovery and question answering happens by analyzing data sets in the form of matrices. Many times, these data sets become too large and complex, and getting useful information quickly from the gathered data can become an arduous and slow task. In our efforts to conduct analysis of a specific large data set problem we explored the option of 3D immersive visualization of the data and ran studies to analyze the effectiveness of such an immersive visualization in the investigation of large data sets in terms of instant recognition and pattern recognition
